Yoga Nidra for Healing | 50 Minuted Guided Meditation

This 50 minute Yoga Nidra for healing guided meditation will lead you deep into the waters of Yoga Nidra. We’ll be exploring the power and symbols of the Chakras and their mantra sounds to bring deeper awareness and healing light into the body.

Hello there new friend, my name is Lumalia RYT here at Celebrate Again Yoga. Having battled chronic illnesses for 6 years now, I’ve been on this crazy wild healing journey. While yoga certainly hasn’t been the sole source of my healing, it has been an extremely important aspect, and it was specifically Yoga Nidra that revealed the source of many of my soul’s deepest wounds. I hope that you find this Yoga Nidra for healing script extremely powerful and restorative in your own life too.

If this is your first time ever practicing yoga nidra here are some tips to set yourself up for success:

  • Create a scared space: Be in a room alone or with someone else practicing with you
    • Remove all animals and children safely from your room (door locking is totally acceptable if needed!)
    • Turn on a sound machine if you’d like.
    • Don’t practice while your neighbors or anyone else is being very loud and able to pull your attention away.
  • Time: Practicing during sunrise or sunset will yield a more powerful energetic experience.
  • Wear comfy clothes.
  • Opt for the modification pose if laying on your back isn’t comfortable.
  • If you fall alseep during the practice take that as a gift for some extra rest your body needed. However do try to come back to the practice when you’ve gotten some more rest to see what your full experience is like.
  • Eye coverings can be helpful but usually are too much for how long you’ll be laying down unless you usually sleep with one.
  • Blankets are helpful but not required, you want the body to be comfortable but not too warm to put you to sleep or make you sweat.

P.S. You can watch the video below to see how I set up my “nest”, but sadly, due to commercial breaks out of my control, I no longer recommend meditations on youtube. I’ve included the audio here instead. Audio does take a moment to load; please be patient.

What Happens During Yoga Nidra?

Before you begin this Yoga Nidra for healing guided meditation, you may be wondering what happens during Yoga Nidra?

Well, simply put, your body relaxes as if it’s asleep. But not just any old sleep, and especially not the kind that most of us likely get these days: very restless, anxious sleep. Rather, we’re aiming for a deep sleep that allows our nervous system to finally turn off and get out of Fight or Flight, and allows our brain to sink into Alpha brain wave states.

Get this–you’re still fully aware of what’s happening, which is what makes Yoga Nidra absolutely unique.

When most humans enter into Alpha or Theta brain waves, they are completely unaware of their surroundings and what’s happening to them. However, Yoga Nidra allows the participant to step into this deep relaxation freely and with complete control over their body and mind. For this reason, it’s not hypnosis, but is a similar brain wave state as the hypnogogic mind.

While I could write a whole essay about the physical, mental and spiritual healing benefits of Yoga Nidra, for now, I’d recommend you check out some research here.

In the mean time, give it a try and at the very least, enjoy some much needed deep relaxation for free.

When's the best time of day to practice Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra can be practiced really any time of day. But its most powerful time is the time in-between. Since Yoga Nidra is an phase between awake and sleep, at twilight or dawn is the best time to practice. Dawn tends to be most ideal for many people.

However, I frequently will practice Yoga Nidra to fall asleep. I even have a Yoga Nidra for sleep guide if you want to give it a try next time you’re struggling to fall asleep!

What happens if you fall asleep during Yoga Nidra?

While you want to remain awake and aware throughout the pratice of Yoga Nidra, it is ok if you fall asleep. As my teacher taught me, it’s simply the body catching up on much needed rest.

So, if you fall asleep during Yoga Nidra, especially at home, enjoy the extra rest and keep practicing. You’ll find as your body fills up its rest battery, you’ll be able to stay awake and aware longer in your practice with time, gentleness and care.

I had Physical Sensations? What does this mean?

Your experience of Yoga Nidra will be unique to you. Try not to question the validity of what happened but let it be and take it all as you wish. Yoga Nidra is a gift and as with all gifts you get to do with it what you’d like.

At the end of the script you’ll notice I recommend taking time to journal afterwards. I personally love to record my experiences and find that it varies day by day.

Variances

While I’d love to say that I have the voice of an angel to slip everyone deep into Yoga Nidra, my voice in particular may not have resonated with you.

Guess what, that’s ok! Try other Yoga Nidra scripts with other teachers. You’ll find that sometimes some voices may guide you deeper into Yoga Nidra than others!
