You’re wondering how to create a peaceful yoga space at home but not sure where to begin, maybe you already have a yoga mat but you want your space to feel sacred, peaceful and possibly be a sanctuary for those precious moments you get to yourself. Even if you have a studio space you regularly go to, having a yoga space at home can be the difference between wanting to do yoga and dreading having to roll out your mat because life feels so cluttered. Well, maybe you’re a real person with a messy home. Maybe your house is full of the pitter patter of young feet creating tornados wherever they go or life is just so crazy you’re not sure the last time you actually dusted or which pile of clothes is clean. No matter where you land, you need a peaceful yoga space at home that will keep you grounded, but where to begin?
Hey beautiful soul, I’m Emmy, Portland based certified yoga teacher, beauty hunter and photographer here at Celebrate Again, where we believe in living life to the fullest. I’m so excited to share with you my top 5 favorite ways how to create a yoga space at home.
Create Your Visual Yoga Space At Home
From the elements on your walls, floors and ceiling to the colors in your area, these elements can help guide your space visually.
Pick a Color Palette
Consider colors to give you life. While calm cool colors like blues, grays, greens and purples will create calm in a space, don’t be afraid to add that pink or red if it gives you life.
Walls, Ceilings and Floors
Are there elements you’d love on the walls, ceiling or floor to help you create the space you’ve been dreaming of? Whether you’re creating a DIY yoga room, yoga corner at home or meditation space, these can be helpful ideas!
My favorite additions are rugs, glow in the dark lights or twinkle lights, fine art prints or handmade decor items.
Photos of water always tend to calm me too. See my full gallery of fine art prints for sale here.
Here’s a round up of our favorite decor items.
- Star lights
- Removable ceiling stars
- Wall Moonlight Tapestry
- More handmade yoga decor items I think you’ll love.
Lighting
Twinkle lights, star lights, glow in the dark stars, candles or even a good ole lamp from a local thrift store can add so much peace to your at home yoga space.
Touch & Texture for your Yoga Space
Decorating your walls, ceilings and floors may start to bring this in, but consider how you can keep adding textures.
What do you want to feel when you walk into your yoga space at home?
- Soft
- Gentle
- Peaceful
Let’s dig into what some of these items could be.
Pillows and blankets for a yoga space at home
If you’re like me and love restorative yoga, you’ll probably already have pillows handy. Consider adding a few decorative pillows to your yoga space at home to add a texture of softness.
Blankets are also super helpful for yoga, so why not include one in a basket to end your yoga flow with a blanket to cover you.

Smell for Your Yoga Space At Home
Of all the senses this is the one I always seem to forget about when creating a space. Well, that is, until its a pungent smell usually from my dogs breath haha.
Although this is such an easy fix with a diffuser with your favorite essential oils.
Not sure where to start? Try some lavender following your diffusers instructions to create some calm at home yoga ambiance.
If you’re not a fan or don’t tolerate essential oils, consider burning your favorite candle. (I thought this “let that sh*t go” soy wax candle from etsy was quite hilarious).
You could also bring in fresh flowers or your favorite plant to add extra life! Peonies are my favorite smelling flowers!
Sounds For Your Yoga Room
Don’t forget to include some lovely sounds in your yoga space at home. While some yoga videos you may be following along have music in the background many, don’t because of the cost of licensing.
I’ve created a playlist on Spotify of my favorite ambient music that I put on play whenever I practice yoga. It’s always a transformative addition to my yoga space at home.
Pro Tip: If you buy a diffuser you could also look for one with built in sounds. Some may come with spa sounds if you enjoy those noises as well.
I loved this hand crafted ceramic diffuser to add some earth textures to your yoga space.
Taste for your Yoga Corner At Home
Tea or flavored water is such a lovely addition to your yoga practice. If you’re anything like me, having water near by is always helpful in my at home yoga practice.
Pro Tip: My personal favorite is adding the juice of a whole lemon or lime to my water to replenish and revitalize my electrolytes during a yoga practice.
